Why most people fail at learning guitar

  • The “no-progress” feeling

The process of learning feels slow and boring
  • Lack of playing

Constantly practicing scales or exercises instead of real songs
  • Irrelevant music

Stuck learning music and genres they don’t care about
  • Too much theory

Too many rules and theory to learn, not enough playing
  • No personalized guidance

Traditional lessons have a one-size-fits-all approach to learning guitar

Matt is a great teacher who cares about students and cares about the progress they make. I absolutely loved every lesson because I felt I gained more experience every time. I got to learn songs I loved and I really enjoyed the experience. It’s a fun and easy going environment and you’ll gain the knowledge you need at your own pace. I loved it! :)

My name is Allan Jensen, I’m 64 years old. I always wanted to play guitar. I saw Matt’s ad and thought, “why not.” I asked my 12-year-old granddaughter Grace to join, and we both picked up used guitars. Matt was friendly, patient, and quickly adapted lessons to our limited ability. He taught methods for remembering finger placement and string names, provided sheet music to practice, and chose simple songs to keep things fun. Matt is great for beginners like us. I highly recommend signing up with him if you’re interested in guitar lessons. I’ll be taking lessons again this fall.

Matt’s been teaching my 9-year-old daughter acoustic guitar for a year now. From our first session, it was evident he has a genuine passion for teaching and an ability to connect with young learners. What stands out is his commitment to personalized lessons catering to my daughter’s learning style. He understands her interests and incorporates them into lessons, making each session engaging and fun. This personalized approach has kept her motivated and fostered her love for music.

Matthew has worked with all of my kids on either ukelele, mandolin and/or acoustic guitar and I am grateful for the fruits I see in their abilities to now play string instruments. His versatile music abilities make him a unique resource and motivation to young learners! I highly reccomend the Glengarry School of Music!

My 10 year-old daughter has been doing weekly private lessons with Matt for a few months now and she looks forward to it every week! She went from being a complete beginner to starting to play her favourite song in 3 lessons! Matt knows how to challenge her just enough, while keeping lessons fun. He’s a kind teacher and he knows how to keep kids engaged. We highly recommend taking lessons with him!

Message from Matt

Hi, I’m Matt Mannucci, founder of Glengarry School of Music. I started playing guitar when I was 12, teaching myself and learning in some unconventional ways. Growing up with a learning disability, I’ve experienced firsthand how learning can feel different for each person. This has shaped how I teach today, as I know that each student has their own way of grasping music.

Matt Mannucci and Family

Family Influence and Inspiration

Music has always been a big part of my life. Growing up in a family of musicians, there was always singing in my house, often in three-part harmonies. It was through this that I learned to sing and understand harmony naturally.

My grandfather, Ross Broughm, was a Canadian finger-style guitarist, and his influence on me was profound. He set the benchmark for me for what it meant to be a true musician, and he was inducted into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010. His dedication and talent have always pushed me to grow and improve as a musician.

My Musical Journey

Throughout my life, I’ve played in various bands, from metal and punk-rock to folk and bluegrass! I’m a self-driven learner and have taught myself to play other instruments including the mandolin, ukulele, banjo, accordion, bass, and upright bass. I even learned Tagalog so I could play OPM music on YouTube, which you can see here.

Discovering My Passion For Teaching

As much as I love performing, I discovered a passion for teaching when I began showing my own four children how to play instruments. It was during these moments that I realized how much I enjoyed helping others learn music. What started with teaching my kids soon expanded to family and friends from church, and eventually grew into what is now Glengarry School of Music.

Glengarry School of Music Today

Today, we teach both children and adults at all stages of learning. Whether you’re just picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to refine your skills, we’re here to help. My goal is to share my love of music and help others on their own unique musical journeys, just as I’ve experienced throughout my life.
